Wood is recruiting for a Materials Controller role with extensive experience in the petrochemical industry. This position supports our Process and Energy business and will be based full time at a client site in Teesside. The role is a 12‑month contract and we are open to staff or contractor engagements.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will ensure the effective receipt, storage, movement and control of all materials to support the contract and business. You will liaise with Supply Chain, user groups, third parties, client and Supply Base & Marine contractors to ensure that all materials and equipment are received, marshalled and shipped in accordance with company procedures and internal controls.

In this role you will work closely with the wider Supply Chain team to carry out materials activities in accordance with the project execution, within budget and in line with project processes and procedures. We are looking for a logistical thinker who can prioritise workloads, work under pressure and collaborate with a team of Materials Controllers to ensure project deadlines are met.

Responsibilities

  • Allocation, control, issue and marshalling of materials between work locations and suppliers in accordance with project requirements and schedules.
  • Production of shipping documents for all material movements.
  • Timely updating of the procurement system with goods receipts, manifests and shipping documentation.
  • Identification of material shortages and surpluses.
  • Control of inventory according to the required regime (FIFO, Kanban), ensuring accuracy through warehouse activity monitoring, cycle counts and stock checks.
  • Production of materials status reporting to project and client.
  • Attendance at project progress meetings and purchase order pre‑production meetings.
  • Liaison with project personnel, client representatives and suppliers to resolve supply issues.
  • Updating the project/procurement status report (PSR) to meet on‑site date requirements and current/estimated lead and delivery times, notifying any delays to supply chain management.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience within a Materials Controller / Logistics role.
  • Experience with ERPs such as Maximo, Oracle or SAP.
  • Competence in the use of Microsoft Office suite.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Dangerous Goods by Sea & Air.
  • Experience with Manual Handling.
