Joining Woodgreen as part of our dynamic Retail team, you will help to raise funds to enable our organisation to support every pet to have a home where they are loved, well cared for, and enjoy positive relationships with their owners.

As Assistant Shop Manager at our Kempston Shop, you will work as part of our shop management team as they continue to strive for excellence. Our community-supported shop is well-stocked with a wide variety of clothes, accessories, homeware, books, and electrical goods. You can be sure that every penny spent in this shop goes towards helping vulnerable pets and struggling pet owners.

Taking full responsibility in the Shop Manager's absence, alongside your own designated tasks, our Assistant Shop Managers will:

  • Maintain continual high standards of shop presentation, back of house operations, and customer service.
  • Present and maintain the highest standards of shop and window merchandising and visual layout.
  • Recruit, train, motivate, manage, and support the creation and development of a loyal and engaged team of volunteers.
  • Ensure maximum stock availability through the processing of donations received in the shop.
  • Be responsible for compliance, record keeping, and cash handling.
  • Be a brand ambassador for Woodgreen to work with the local community to raise awareness and engagement for our cause.

With a salary of £9,318.40 per annum for our 14-hour a week role and £10,649.60 per annum for our 16-hour a week position (equivalent to £12.80 per hour), our opportunities have a working pattern of either 14 hours a week working on a Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday or 16 hours a week working on Monday and Wednesday on week 1 and Monday and Saturday on week 2.

It is important to note that as Woodgreen Charity Shops are open 7 days a week, there may be the opportunity, from time to time, to provide cover to support holiday or absences for your Shop Management team or area should you wish to do so.

This competitive salary will be complemented by:

  • Pro rata equivalent of 36 days annual leave per year (inclusive of bank holidays) rising by 1 day each year to a maximum of 40 days after five years

Due to the nature of this role, there will be an element of manual handling and physical activity involved. You may also be required to work alone from time to time. For this reason, we are unable to accept applications from anyone under the age of 18.
