About The Role
We’re looking for a self-sufficient and experienced Full‑Stack WordPress Developer to join our collaborative team of strategists, designers, and project managers. As the sole developer on our projects, you’ll take full ownership of the technical delivery – translating Figma designs into high‑performing, secure, and scalable WordPress websites.
This role requires a developer who can confidently work across both the front end and back end, bringing deep expertise in custom WordPress development, performance optimisation, and systems integration. You’ll be comfortable working independently, but also thrive in a team environment where open communication, proactive problem‑solving, and hitting deadlines are key.
Responsibilities
- Lead end‑to‑end development of bespoke WordPress websites, from scoping and planning through to deployment and post‑launch support
- Develop and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins tailored to specific project needs
- Build robust and scalable back‑end functionality, including integrations with third‑party APIs, CRMs, and external platforms
- Translate static Figma files into pixel‑perfect, responsive, and accessible front‑end experiences
- Collaborate with project managers, designers, and strategists to scope technical requirements and propose smart solutions
- Ensure best practices are followed across performance, security, SEO, and accessibility
- Proactively identify and manage technical risks, ensuring realistic timelines and smooth project delivery
- Conduct cross‑browser and device testing, QA, and debugging prior to handover
- Stay up to date with WordPress updates, modern development tools, and best practices
Required Skills and Experience
- 3–5+ years of professional experience in full‑stack WordPress development
- Strong literacy in PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3 (Sass or SCSS a plus)
- Proven experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins from scratch
- Solid understanding of MySQL and database optimisation techniques
- Experience with REST APIs, third‑party integrations, and custom post types
- Familiarity with deployment processes and version control (e.g., Git)
- Knowledge of hosting environments (e.g., Kinsta, WP Engine) and DNS management
- Strong understanding of responsive design, accessibility standards (WCAG), and SEO fundamentals
- Excellent time management and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset and strong attention to detail
Benefits
- Salary based on experience
- 27 days holiday, including a day off for your birthday plus bank holidays
- Monthly team outings
- Regular open‑door / in‑studio speaker events
- Company pension with Aviva
- Private medical insurance with BUPA
