The Role

As our Finance Assistant, you will play a crucial role in keeping our day-to-day financial operations running like clockwork. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone with 1–2 years of accounting experience who wants to expand their skillset, take on real ownership, and get a front-row seat to how a fast-growing, creative e-commerce business operates. You’ll be a key point of contact for internal teams (especially marketing) and external suppliers, making communication just as important as your love for spreadsheets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Day-to-Day Financial Operations
    • Ledger Management: Take full ownership of managing accounts payable and receivable, ensuring everything is accurately recorded.
    • Cash Flow & Banking: Produce weekly payment runs and perform regular bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Inbox Management: Oversee the main accounting inbox, acting as the friendly and efficient face of finance for supplier and internal queries.
    • Spend Management: Manage employee expenses and company business subscriptions using Spendesk.
  • Month-End & Compliance
    • Journal Entries: Post month-end journals, including accruals and prepayments, and any necessary adjustments.
    • Reporting: Produce month-end variance analysis, actively reviewing budget vs. actual spend to help us stay on track.
    • Taxation: Prepare quarterly VAT returns for finance manager review.
  • Business Collaboration & Support
    • Marketing Partnership: Liaise closely with our marketing team, monitoring marketing expenditure against budgets.
    • Commercial Admin: Raise employment contracts for our network of freelancers.
    • Growth & Strategy: Assist the wider team with the annual budgeting process and support preparation for external audits.

The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, and loves finding ways to make processes smoother.

Your Experience & Skills:

  • 1–2 years of experience in a similar finance or accounting role.
  • Progressing toward a qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA) is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Tech-savvy: Experience with spend management tools (like Spendesk) and Xero accounting software is highly desirable.
  • Strong Excel skills are a must.
  • Attention to detail: You spot a missing invoice or a mismatched reconciliation from a mile away.
  • Adaptable: You thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy a mix of routine tasks and ad-hoc projects.
