Women’s Work is a National Award Winning Charity founded in 2003. We aim to deliver a holistic, person centred support service to vulnerable and disadvantaged women with complex health and social needs. We do this by ensuring they can access support, education and information to raise self-esteem and confidence, empowering them to make positive life choices resulting in improved health.

We are looking for a new dynamic individual to be our Treasurer. The Trustees acting together govern Women’s Work, safeguarding its assets and applying them as efficiently and effectively as possible to further Women’s Work objectives as set out in its governing document.

The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of Women’s Work in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements, and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for Women’s Work. The time commitment will be six (6) board meetings per year. The Treasurer is also expected to have regular meetings with the Chief Executive and Finance Manager. The role of Treasurer is not accompanied by any financial remuneration, although expenses for travel may be claimed.

Principal Responsibilities of the Treasurer:
  • Oversight of budgets, accounts, financial statements and financial reports which are presented to the Board of Trustees after discussion with the Finance Manager and Chief Executive Officer.
  • Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs and are within the charity’s objectives.
  • Being instrumental in the development and implementation of appropriate financial policies eg reserves policy and investment policies.
  • Liaising with the Finance Manager on financial matters.
  • Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place to safeguard the charity’s assets.
  • Advising on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans.
  • Liaising with Women’s Work auditors where appropriate.
  • Liaising with the Finance Manager to ensure that the charity’s annual accounts are compliant with the current Charities SORP and Financial Reporting Standards.
  • Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.
  • Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the annual general meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way.
  • Sitting on appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary panels as required.
