About the Role

Are you an experienced Process Engineer with a passion for sustainable engineering and large-scale delivery? We are looking for a senior engineer to join Carbon Neutral Fuels as Engineering Manager for the FEED phase of our flagship Power-to-Liquid Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) project, ASAP-DAC.

In this critical role, you will act as the internal technical lead, working closely with our Project Director, Project Manager, technology licensors, and FEED contractor to ensure design integrity across a complex, integrated facility. The scope includes cutting edge green technologies such as Direct Air Capture (DAC), SOEC Electrolysis and Fischer-Tropsch synthesis.

You will be responsible for reviewing and coordinating technical deliverables, guiding key design decisions, and acting as the key technical interface with our FEED contractor and process licensors. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with strong design coordination experience, a rigorous process mindset, and enthusiasm for working with cutting-edge low-carbon technologies.

What do we offer

  • Competitive salary
  • A flexible working policy that is outcomes driven
  • Generous holiday entitlement (30 days minimum)
  • We accommodate all religious holidays and our flexible leave policy reflects this
  • CNF provides flexible working options for those with care requirements, and supports maternity / paternity / carers leave for individuals with caring responsibilities
  • Career development training and budget

Your responsibilities

  • Lead internal technical oversight of the FEED contractor's process and multidisciplinary engineering deliverables.
  • Review and challenge PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, control philosophies, and equipment specifications.
  • Maintain the process design basis and ensure alignment with project performance and commercial assumptions.
  • Coordinate discipline interfaces across DAC, electrolysis, Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, utilities, and infrastructure.
  • Support HAZID/HAZOP reviews and manage associated technical actions.
  • Oversee technical risk register, management of change, and configuration control.
  • Support constructability, operability, and maintainability reviews during FEED.
  • Contribute to procurement package definition and long-lead item reviews.
  • Present technical inputs to internal project reviews and governance committees.
  • Building an inclusive, welcoming and engaging company culture.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree-qualified Process Engineer (Chemical Engineering or related discipline).
  • Chartered Engineer status or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of process engineering experience in the energy sector.
  • Significant experience overseeing FEED or EPC contractor work on major projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK process safety and permitting standards (e.g. COMAH).
  • Proven track record of multidisciplinary coordination and contractor engagement.

Desirable

  • Experience with syngas and/or hydrogen, and/or Gas-to-Liquids (Fischer-Tropsch).
  • Familiarity with planning, permitting, and EIA processes in the UK.
  • Experience with Operations & Maintenance.

Personal Qualities

  • Be confident in leading and motivating a team of skilled individuals to deliver on project outcomes.
  • Comfortable working within a scale-up environment.
  • A customer-centric commercial mindset with the ability to confidently communicate with multiple stakeholders including our supply chain.

At Carbon Neutral Fuels, a growing organisation established in 2022 and part-funded by the UK Government, we see a future where clean aviation is the norm, not the exception.
