Salary £25,792 per year, increasing yearly. Contract. Based in Milton Keynes. The Engineering Design Technician Apprenticeship is a 4 year programme where you will learn how to produce engineering designs and drawings for components, structures and systems used in industrial and commercial construction. 80% on-the-job learning, 20% virtual study with Train’d Up. On successful completion, you will gain a formal Level 3 qualification. Graduates will also have the necessary experience and qualifications to obtain EngTech status with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Start date 01/09/2025. Hours: Full Time. Location: Milton Keynes. Travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed mechanical drawings or models (part and assembly level) to appropriate company and industry codes of practice, regulations, standards and procedures.
  • Utilise digital technologies and techniques, such as Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to produce detailed 3D models in surfaces or solids of mechanical components at part and assembly levels.
  • Interpret technical specifications and collaborate with stakeholders to develop effective and efficient design solutions.
  • Review engineering drawings for accuracy and propose corrective actions to ensure technical compliance.
  • Generate design ideas and concepts to address engineering challenges.
  • Evaluate design options to identify cost-effective and practical solutions.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of engineering codes and standards.
  • Proficiently use drawing software packages for 2D and 3D modelling.

Requirements

  • GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (or the equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • Due to funding rules, you must NOT already have a qualification in a similar subject at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship.
  • Strong interest in engineering and design.
  • Ongoing career development, training and coaching – because if you don’t grow, we don’t grow.
