East Dunbartonshire Women’s Aid has an exciting opportunity for two experienced children’s workers to join our team, providing support to children and young people living in our refuge accommodation and when they move from refuge into more permanent accommodation.
Our Children and Young People’s Workers provide vital support to children dealing with the trauma of domestic abuse and leaving their home.
They ensure that children and young people are given a service which is driven by them and meets their needs.
As essential part of the role involves working with mothers/carers to help them to reflect on their children’s needs and enable them to support their children through the recovery process.
The Children’s Worker is instrumental in the running of the refuge provision alongside the Women’s Refuge Worker. This means there are some duties which are shared by both workers.
At times, you will also work closely with partner organisations, promoting the service and raising awareness.
We are looking to recruit two part-time workers.
- One is a temporary position as a result of maternity leave and is up to the end of February 2024 with the possibility of an extension.
This contract will be for 30 hours per week, although we will consider fewer hours for the right candidate.
- The other permanent post is for 30 hours per week.
Whilst both posts will be located within our dedicated refuge accommodation in East Dunbartonshire there will be a requirement to travel throughout East Dunbartonshire therefore a degree of flexibility is essential.
Candidates should have an understanding of, and commitment to, the feminist analysis of domestic abuse (or a willingness to learn), experience of interagency working and be willing to work as part of a collective where all staff share management responsibilities.
At least two years’ experience in supporting vulnerable children and young people exposed to trauma is required.
Applicants must hold a recognised relevant qualification at a minimum of SVQ Level 3 (alternatively, equivalent in child care qualifications will be considered).
Posts are subject to a successful PVG scheme check, suitable references and completion of a satisfactory 6-month induction period.
