As a Senior Front-End Developer, you'll join our Engineering community and play a key role in shaping and delivering front-end solutions used across DWP Digital. You'll be part of teams responsible for building and maintaining reusable patterns, components and libraries that underpin digital services at national scale. This is a senior role with real influence. You'll lead front-end development across multiple products, promote best practice and act as an advocate for accessibility, usability and quality. Your work will directly support teams across DWP to design and deliver services more consistently and to a higher standard.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?
- Experience working on large-scale, enterprise-level systems, with an understanding of the technical and organisational constraints that come with them.
- Expert-level experience building front-end applications using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript and Node, including working with open-source technologies.
- Strong experience designing and delivering accessible user interfaces, with a deep understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standards and how to apply them in practice.
- Experience leading the technical direction of front-end work, setting standards, promoting best practice, and ensuring consistency and quality across teams.
- Confidence building and maintaining reusable components, patterns and libraries, and encouraging their adoption across multiple products.
- Experience integrating front-end solutions with back-end systems, and choosing appropriate technologies and approaches.
- Strong experience leading, coaching and mentoring developers, helping others improve their skills and creating a positive engineering culture.
You and your role
As a Senior Front-End Developer, you'll be a trusted and empowered technical leader within DWP Digital. You'll shape how front-end development is done across our organisation, working on products and platforms that allow our teams to design and deliver consistent, reusable and accessible services. You'll help us develop products and services that work better for millions of people and over 100,000 colleagues and agents.
A key part of your role will be leading the development and evolution of reusable front-end patterns and components. You'll help define standards, promote design system adoption, and ensure that code is robust, accessible and easy for teams to use and build upon. You'll also support the release, maintenance and deployment of products and code packages used widely across DWP.
You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure front-end solutions integrate effectively with back-end services and meet high standards for performance, accessibility, browser compatibility and user experience. Using modern tooling and development techniques, you'll champion test-driven development and iterative delivery.
You'll be hands-on, but we also need your leadership skills. You'll coach and mentor colleagues, help grow capability across teams, and contribute to engineering and user-centred design communities. You'll act as an enabler for multiple teams, resolving technical blockers, promoting collaboration and helping teams deliver at pace without compromising quality.

- Location: You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.
- Hybrid Working: We work a hybrid model – you'll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.
- Pay: We offer pay up to £80,664. That's £57,946 – £68,205 salary plus a Digital Allowance of up to £12,459 subject to our assessment of your capability at interview.
- Pension: You'll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth up to £19,759 per year.
