Card Payment Specialist (Product) – Engine by Starling

About The Role
As the primary technical point of contact for Cards across Product, Engineering and Client Success, you will manage day‑to‑day communication with card schemes, handle incidents and bugs, and keep Engine’s card processor compliant with Visa and Mastercard mandates. Your work spans product strategy, client‑facing requirement gathering, solution design and technical ownership in an engineering context.
What You’ll Get To Do
- Review and complete all Mastercard bulletins, cascading to the appropriate teams.
- Ensure mandates are implemented in line with card scheme requirements and deadlines.
- Maintain compliance with MasterCard/Visa Scheme rules.
- Serve as the technical point of contact with card schemes, aligning internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical support on card projects across multiple card schemes.
- Act as an escalation point for card queries and issues, working closely with cards engineering and client success teams.
- Support product and solution architects in designing client‑centric solutions and future roadmap items.
- Author and maintain card product documentation, including user guides and FAQs for Engine clients.
Requirements
- Relevant experience in card payments: Visa/Mastercard, card payment regulatory compliance, 3DS, mobile wallets, card processing.
- Knowledge or experience in the debit or credit card industry.
- 2+ years working in a financial institution, preferably banking.
- Experience across regions and jurisdictions is a plus.
- Comfortable leading multiple workstreams on the go.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective partnership with engineering, delivery and product teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to balance workload with multiple priorities and ad‑hoc escalations.
Interview Process
- 45‑minute conversation with the Cards Senior Product Manager.
- 1‑hour interview with two additional team members, including a Technical Programme Manager and Card Specialist.
