Data Assurance is a function of Data Enablement Services and includes Data Governance, Data Management, Data Minimisation, Data Confidentiality Assurance, Data Quality Management, Records Management and Information Risk as core components and service areas. The Metadata and Documentation Specialist is a key role within the Data Assurance function and will be responsible for helping many teams and capabilities, helping us make confident and safe choices for Data by better understanding and proactively managing the integrity of our Data Landscape.

The successful individual will build and develop technical skills in several key areas enabling data management technologies and developing a view of our business operations, through the eyes of a Data specialist. This critical role supports the Data Assurance Operations Manager and wider Data Assurance team. Working in collaboration with the Data Architecture and Solutions design specialists, you will capture, refine and extend documentation for operational procedures, systems documentation and metadata to help build greater understanding of Admiral’s data and data systems.

As a critical member of the Data Assurance team, you will create an environment of collaboration, agility, innovation, and ownership in support of the team and overall business ambitions. You will support and update the business glossary and data catalogue, identify data quality issues, and support the development and maintenance of an end-to-end data lifecycle management approach for our business domains.

Main Duties
  • As a team, take responsibility for capturing and maintaining a governance and architectural view of our continually evolving Data Landscape.
  • Plan, develop, deliver, and operational data documentation.
  • Work with the Data Assurance Business Partners and Data Assurance Specialists to develop training content for the Data Catalog.
  • Work with Data Assurance Specialists to ensure collection, collation, enhancement, and augmentation of metadata within their data domain.
  • Write explanatory and procedural guides for multiple audiences.
  • Consult with Stakeholders to assist in implementing updates to data documentation and data cataloguing – data lineage support.
  • Work with the Data Assurance Operations Manager to develop procedures, policies, standards and other strategic documents.
  • Create, manage and maintain the Conceptual and logical Data Models, Data Catalogues, Data Dictionaries, Business Glossaries, and other repositories of data system documentation.
  • Work with the EUI Data Protection team to manage and maintain Records of Processing Activities and develop associated data flow diagrams supporting our GDPR compliance.
  • Work with the Data Quality team to identify critical data flows and control points.
  • Develop and maintain key stakeholder relationships across EUI.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, for example conveying information to diverse audiences in a way that is easily understood and actionable.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Data Catalogs & data modelling tools such as Sparx, Collibra, & Google Cloud Data Catalog.
  • Knowledge of data discovery technology such as BigID.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SharePoint, Atlassian Confluence and other documentation applications.
  • Commercially aware, proactive, forward looking, inquisitive and attention to detail.
  • Relationship management, for example creating relationships and quickly building trust with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Working on own initiative, with the ability to introduce fresh thinking to the role and the wider Data Assurance team.
  • Qualification such as CDMP Associate or above highly desirable.
Salary, Benefits and Work-Life Balance

We do not have a set salary for this position, as it will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience.
