Role Overview
As Chair of Trustees, you will lead the Board in ensuring the charity is well-governed, strategically focused, and delivering on its mission. You will act as an ambassador for Girls in Data, fostering strong relationships with the voluntary community whilst strategically driving fundraising initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to the Board of Trustees, ensuring effective governance and compliance with legal, financial and regulatory requirements.
- Chair Board meetings effectively, encouraging inclusive and productive discussions.
- Champion the mission and values of Girls in Data, representing the charity at key events and with external stakeholders and public speaking engagements.
- Ensure the Board works collaboratively and has the right mix of skills and experience.
- Lead on succession planning and trustee recruitment.
- Oversee risk management and financial sustainability in partnership with the board.
Person Specification
Essential:
- Proven leadership experience at Board or senior executive level.
- Strong understanding of governance, strategy, nonprofit operations and finance.
- Passion for gender equity and inclusion in data and technology.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build consensus and foster a collaborative Board culture.
- An accomplished public speaker, who can bring to life the mission in a connected and meaningful way.
- Previous experience as a charity trustee or NED in the non-profit sector.
Desirable:
- Experience in the data, tech, or education sectors.
- Strong networks within the data or nonprofit communities.
- Knowledge and previous practical exposure to fundraising in the charity sector.
