Overview

At Virgin Media, we’re transforming the way our teams use data—making it faster, cleaner, and smarter. As an Analytics Platform Engineer, you’ll work with GCP, Terraform, and modern data tooling to empower analysts and engineers alike, helping turn raw data into insights that drive real business impact.

We’re looking for someone based in Manchester or the North of England, ideally close enough to collaborate in person with our team. While we value flexibility, having someone local helps us work closely on cloud and platform initiatives, share knowledge, and tackle challenges together.

In this role, you’ll be at the heart of our analytics platform, designing, building, and maintaining cloud-based environments in GCP. You’ll use Terraform and other Infrastructure-as-Code tools to manage and scale infrastructure, collaborate closely with data engineers on architecture and permissions, and support the teams that turn data into actionable insights. This is a hands-on role where your work directly impacts how our business makes decisions, giving you the chance to grow your skills in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud-based environments in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Use Terraform and other Infrastructure-as-Code tools to manage and scale infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with data engineers on architecture, permissions, and platform needs.
  • Support teams that turn data into actionable insights.

Qualifications

The must haves

  • Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code (IAC) tools – able to define, deploy, and manage cloud infrastructure reliably.
  • Hands-on with cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud.
  • Strong SQL skills – comfortable writing, optimizing, and troubleshooting queries in high-volume data environments.
  • Familiarity with Python – able to support scripts, automation, and integrations (Python experience is a bonus but increasingly important).
  • Knowledge of cloud environment practices and deployment pipelines – understanding CI/CD, permissions, and platform infrastructure management.

The other stuff we are looking for

  • Experience working in a platform team within an analytics or data-focused environment – familiarity with supporting multiple data teams and their workflows.
  • Knowledge of data governance – understanding of data lineage, quality standards, and compliance practices.

Next steps

If we feel like a place where you can belong, we’d love to learn more about you as a person and your experience to date. Once you’ve submitted an application the next steps of the process, if successful, are likely to include a two stage interview process.

When you apply, you’ll be asked about any adjustments you might need to support the recruitment process. Let us know, and we’ll be sure to discuss it with you.

Please note: Applications will be reviewed, and interviews conducted throughout the duration of this advert, therefore we may bring the closing date forward. We encourage all interested applicants to apply as soon as possible. If you’re offered a job with us, it will be conditional, based on the passing of background checks.
