We are recruiting a Junior Estimator on behalf of a well-established engineering and fabrication business based on Teesside. Working alongside experienced estimators and reporting to the Proposals Engineer, you will support the preparation of accurate quotations and tender submissions for engineering and fabrication projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the early stages of their career who is keen to develop their technical, commercial and estimating knowledge within a practical engineering environment.
The role:
- Review customer enquiries, technical drawings and specifications to help establish the material, labour, subcontractor, plant and equipment costs associated with each project.
- Work closely with estimating, engineering, production, planning, procurement and supply chain teams, gaining valuable experience in fabrication methods, commercial costing and project delivery.
- Assist with the review of customer enquiries, drawings, specifications and scope of work documents.
- Learn to interpret engineering and fabrication drawings, bills of materials and technical specifications.
- Support the preparation of cost estimates for materials, labour, subcontracted services, plant and equipment.
- Obtain and compare quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Assist with the preparation of tender documents and quotation packages.
- Maintain estimating records, cost databases and quotation registers.
- Liaise with internal departments to gather the information required for accurate estimates.
- Support the development of labour rates, production assumptions and costing models.
- Help to identify technical and commercial risks within tender enquiries.
- Participate in project handover meetings following contract awards.
- Compare actual project costs against estimates and identify lessons learned.
- Develop your understanding of fabrication, welding, machining and assembly processes.
- Undertake shop‑floor efficiency studies and provide feedback.
- Ensure work complies with company procedures, quality standards and customer specifications.
About you:
- An HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in engineering, manufacturing, construction or a related discipline.
- Some experience within an engineering, fabrication or manufacturing environment.
