Purpose of the Role

As an Electrical Technician, you'll play a fundamental part in maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of site facilities and electrical distribution systems. You will contribute directly to the department's mission. Working within a high‑specification manufacturing environment, you'll support planned maintenance, breakdown response, minor modifications, and continuous improvement activities. The role actively encourages growth towards a multi‑disciplined technical profile.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Promote and uphold the highest standards of Health & Safety, ensuring compliance with site procedures, RAMS, JSA and relevant legislation. Support the wider site culture around ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.
  • Maintenance Delivery: Plan and deliver both planned and reactive maintenance activities with minimal supervision. Use CMMS (Maximo) for accurate maintenance recording, analysis, and scheduling. Diagnose and resolve plant faults efficiently, performing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Technical Performance: Inspect, test and maintain MCCs, electrical distribution systems, DOL, Star/Delta and VSD installations. Operate and fault‑find on electrical power distribution equipment. Contribute to DSEAR/Hazardous Area compliance and inspections. Review PM findings, recommending improvements and adjusted maintenance frequencies.
  • Operational Support: Work closely with process technicians and operators to minimise disruption and maximise plant availability. Support training and knowledge sharing across the team, including apprentices and multi‑disciplined development.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead or contribute to improvement projects focused on reliability, efficiency, and cost reduction. Participate in structured problem‑solving using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone and 8D.
  • External Coordination: Liaise with vendors and field engineers for technical support, service contracts and breakdown assistance.

About You

Experience & Background: Time‑served Electrical Maintenance apprenticeship. Minimum 2 years' experience in a Process or Chemical Plant environment.

Technical Skills: Strong understanding of electrical drives, MCCs and distribution systems. Proven electrical fault‑finding capability using drawings and technical documentation. Knowledge of HVAC, motor maintenance, lighting, UPS systems and switching operations. Confident with COSHH, writing risk assessments and method statements. IT‑literate with experience using maintenance software.

Personal Qualities: Self‑motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently. A team‑focused approach with strong communication skills. Keen to develop additional disciplines and support team progression. Analytical, results‑driven and committed to high standards.

Qualifications: Minimum ONC or equivalent alongside a recognised apprenticeship.
