Engineering Project Manager - Fuel Storage & Distribution Projects Location: Home / Remote Based with regular travel to Inverness and Aberdeen Employment: Permanent or Contract Start: ASAP Sector: Fuel Storage, Distribution & Energy Infrastructure The Opportunity Wolviston Management Services is supporting a major UK fuel distribution and energy business in the appointment of an experienced Engineering Project Manager to manage a portfolio of engineering projects across operational sites in Scotland. The role will initially focus on projects located in Inverness and Aberdeen and can be offered on either a permanent staff or contract basis. We are looking for an experienced Project Manager with a strong engineering background and demonstrable experience managing multi-discipline engineering projects within operational industrial environments. Projects are expected to involve a combination of mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation and associated civil/structural works, including the installation, replacement and modification of equipment such as: · Storage tanks and vessels · Pumps and pumping systems · Process and transfer pipework · Valves and associated mechanical equipment · Fuel transfer, loading and unloading systems · Electrical distribution equipment · Instrumentation and control systems · Associated civils, structural and infrastructure works The successful candidate will manage projects through the full project lifecycle, from initial scope development and engineering through procurement, construction, commissioning and handover. An early start is preferred to allow an effective handover from the departing Project Manager. Key Responsibilities Reporting into the Engineering function, the Project Manager will take responsibility for the safe, effective and commercially controlled delivery of assigned engineering projects. Key responsibilities will include: · Manage engineering projects from initial scope definition and concept development through detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover. · Coordinate multi-discipline engineering activities including mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, control and civil/structural disciplines. · Develop clear scopes of work, project execution plans, programmes, cost estimates and delivery strategies. · Manage modifications and upgrades to existing operational assets and infrastructure. · Coordinate internal stakeholders, engineering consultants, contractors, equipment vendors and specialist suppliers. · Manage technical interfaces between engineering disciplines and ensure designs are practical, coordinated and suitable for installation. · Review engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, equipment data sheets, contractor proposals and other technical documentation. · Support procurement activities including preparation of scopes, technical evaluations and contractor/vendor selection. · Manage construction and installation activities on operational sites. · Coordinate shutdowns, isolations and interfaces with operational teams where required. · Manage contractor performance, ensuring work is undertaken safely and in accordance with agreed specifications, programmes and quality requirements. · Maintain effective control of project budgets, schedules, resources, risks and changes. · Identify project risks at an early stage and develop appropriate mitigation strategies. · Ensure robust change control and Management of Change processes are followed where applicable. · Participate in engineering and process safety reviews as appropriate to individual project scopes. · Ensure projects comply with relevant health, safety, environmental, engineering and statutory requirements. · Manage commissioning, testing, punch-list activities and final project handover. · Ensure appropriate as-built drawings, operating information, technical files and project close-out documentation are completed. · Provide regular progress, cost, programme and risk reporting to senior stakeholders. Candidate Profile We are looking for a technically credible Engineering Project Manager who is comfortable managing projects within operational industrial facilities. Candidates should ideally demonstrate: · Significant experience managing multi-discipline engineering projects. · An engineering background, ideally mechanical, process, chemical, electrical or a related discipline. · Experience managing projects involving mechanical plant, pipework, pumps, vessels/tanks and E&I systems. · Experience delivering projects from engineering and design through construction, installation and commissioning. · Experience working within live operational or brownfield environments. · Strong contractor, consultant and supplier management experience. · Good understanding of project planning, cost control, risk management and change management. · Experience coordinating multiple engineering disciplines. · Strong understanding of construction and engineering health and safety requirements. · Ability to manage several concurrent projects or work packages. · Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. · A practical and delivery-focused approach to project management. Preferred Industry Experience Experience within one or more of the following environments would be particularly relevant: · Bulk fuel storage and distribution · Oil terminals and tank farms · Marine terminals and bunkering facilities · Downstream oil and gas · Refining · Petrochemical or chemical manufacturing · Process manufacturing · Utilities and energy infrastructure · Industrial asset management · Other hazardous or highly regulated process environments Knowledge or experience of DSEAR, ATEX, CDM Regulations, HAZOP/HAZID, Management of Change and process safety principles would be advantageous. Qualifications A relevant engineering qualification such as a Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical, Chemical, Process, Electrical or another engineering discipline would be preferred. A recognised project management qualification such as APM, PRINCE2 or PMP would be advantageous but is not essential where supported by substantial practical project delivery experience. Location & Travel The role can be predominantly home based; however, regular travel to operational sites will be required. The initial project portfolio is principally located in: Inverness Aberdeen Candidates located in the North or North East of Scotland would therefore be particularly attractive, although candidates based elsewhere will be considered where they can demonstrate the flexibility to travel regularly. Employment Options The client is flexible regarding engagement and will consider: Permanent staff appointment or Contract / project-based appointment Availability to commence at short notice would be particularly advantageous due to the requirement to complete a handover with the incumbent Project Manager
