The Opportunity

Wolviston Management Services is recruiting a Management Accountant on behalf of a well-established company based in Hartlepool. Our client is a market-leading organisation serving a diverse customer base including commercial, agricultural, public sector and domestic customers. Due to continued growth and success, they are seeking an ambitious and proactive finance professional to join their finance team and play a key role in supporting financial performance and operational excellence.

Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, this position offers the opportunity to take ownership of key accounting processes, contribute to business improvement initiatives and support strategic decision-making through insightful financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support month-end accounting processes.
  • Review and reconcile key financial schedules, including:
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
    • Vehicle cost reporting
    • Accrual and prepayment schedules
  • Complete bad debt reviews and stock reconciliations.
  • Perform payroll and pension reconciliations.
  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts with supporting commentary.
  • Produce and review depot profit and loss reports.
  • Conduct trial balance reviews and ensure all balances are supported.
  • Review weekly payment runs and ensure timely banking submissions.
  • Prepare RDCO analysis and reporting for commercial stakeholders.
  • Complete monthly VAT reconciliations and submissions.
  • Deliver ad hoc analysis and reporting to support business decision-making.
  • Carry out periodic internal finance audits to identify process improvements, automation opportunities and AI-driven efficiencies.
  • Manage monthly intercompany reconciliations within the ERP system.
  • Support the implementation of new controls, systems and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with year-end audit processes and insurance renewals.
  • Provide support across wider finance functions, including credit control and purchase ledger, when required.
  • Respond to customer queries and support general office operations as needed.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience within a finance function or accountancy practice environment.
  • Strong management accounting experience.
  • AAT Level 4 qualification or be part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, Lookups, SUMIFS and data analysis.
  • Experience working within a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently, identify issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong analytical and commercial awareness.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across the business.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, automation and process development.
  • The ability to manage deadlines and prioritise workloads effectively.
  • RDCO knowledge would be advantageous but is not essential.
