Wolviston Management Services is proud to be working in partnership with Tioxide to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join the Finance Organisation at Stockton-on-Tees.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with early accounting or finance experience who is looking to develop their career within a major manufacturing environment.
The Role
As Assistant Accountant, you will support financial accounting activity across the business, helping to ensure accurate reporting, effective controls, timely reconciliations and compliance with internal and external requirements.
You will be involved in both routine accounting processes and wider improvement activity, gaining valuable exposure to a major manufacturing finance environment.
- What You’ll Be Doing
- Support the Lead Accountant in delivering high‑quality financial accounting services.
- Assist with financial accounting, compliance and UK GAAP controls.
- Support internal and external reporting deadlines.
- Help ensure local and group reporting requirements meet regulatory standards.
- Support the coordination of external audit activity for relevant UK legal entities.
- Assist with annual internal controls assessment, testing and documentation.
- Complete month‑end close tasks, including journals, balance sheet reconciliations, cashflow reconciliation and other financial statements.
- Support the preparation of annual statutory accounts.
- Work on elements of direct and indirect tax, including VAT.
- Provide supporting evidence for internal and external audits.
- Complete intercompany balance reconciliations.
- Review and process credit card and cash expenses.
- Build effective working relationships with Finance colleagues, internal stakeholders and external fiscal authorities.
- Contribute to standard accounting processes and continuous improvement projects.
- Carry out all duties in line with Corporate EHS, internal controls and business conduct policies.

- Candidate Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or a similar/equivalent subject.
- A professional accounting qualification in progress, where relevant, such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
- Experience in an accounting or finance‑based role.
- Good or intermediate Excel skills.
- A basic understanding of double‑entry accounting.
- Fluency in English.
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
- A customer‑focused and proactive approach.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a finance team.
- A commitment to safe working, inclusion, professionalism and values‑led behaviours.
- Experience of payroll, VAT and SAP would be advantageous.
