We are recruiting for an experienced Site Engineering Manager to join a major chemical/process manufacturing site in Hartlepool. The plant is entering an exciting new stage, with renewed focus on engineering leadership, asset reliability, compliance, maintenance CAPEX and long-term operational performance. This is a senior leadership role where you will lead the Site Engineering function, shape engineering strategy and ensure assets are maintained, inspected, repaired and operated in line with UK legislation, COMAH requirements and recognised engineering best practice.

What you'll be doing:

  • Lead the Site Engineering function and provide a professional engineering service across the site.
  • Design and deliver the site reliability strategy and asset life plans.
  • Define, lead and deliver the maintenance CAPEX programme.
  • Ensure engineering assets meet legislation, COMAH requirements and site standards.
  • Lead engineering excellence, asset integrity and asset life planning.
  • Select, lead, motivate and develop the Site Engineering team.
  • Manage engineering resources, stores and equipment overhaul processes.
  • Appoint and manage external specialists, contractors and engineering companies.
  • Provide functional leadership to the wider engineering community.
  • Contribute to site strategy as part of the senior leadership team.

What we're looking for:

  • A degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer status and membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • 10+ years engineering leadership experience in chemical, process manufacturing or another high-hazard environment.
  • Experience working with Upper Tier COMAH assets.
  • Strong knowledge of asset integrity, engineering standards and compliance.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets, CAPEX programmes, engineering stores or major engineering resources.
  • Experience recruiting, developing and leading engineering teams.
  • Excellent organisation, prioritisation and resource planning skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication and influencing skills.
  • A clear commitment to safe engineering practice, compliance and continuous improvement.

Useful experience:

  • Developing asset management and engineering best practice programmes.
  • Leading continuous improvement across engineering, maintenance or operations.
  • Acting as Senior Duty Manager, Site Main Controller or equivalent emergency response role.
  • Managing Responsible Engineers or technical authority roles across engineering disciplines.
  • Managing maintenance CAPEX budgets of around £5m - £8m.
  • Managing engineering stores or critical spares.
  • Leading reliability strategy, asset life planning or capital renewal programmes.
