We are recruiting for an experienced Responsible Mechanical Engineer to join a major chemical manufacturing site in Greatham. The plant is entering an exciting new stage of development, with renewed focus on engineering standards, asset integrity, reliability and safe production. This is a senior technical role where you will act as the site's mechanical engineering authority, ensuring assets are designed, installed, maintained, inspected and operated in line with UK legislation, COMAH requirements and recognised engineering best practice.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead mechanical engineering strategy, asset integrity and asset life planning.
- Ensure fixed and rotating equipment is maintained, inspected and operated safely.
- Oversee compliance with PSSR, COMAH and mechanical integrity standards.
- Act as the technical interface with external specialists, inspection bodies and competent authorities.
- Approve repairs and modifications involving EHS-critical equipment.
- Lead and develop mechanical engineering duty holders and Qualified Persons.
- Support engineering improvement plans and capital equipment renewal activity.
- Help strengthen engineering capability across a complex manufacturing site.
What we're looking for:
- A Mechanical Engineering degree.
- Chartered Engineer status and membership of a relevant professional institution.
- 10+ years engineering leadership experience in chemical, process, manufacturing or another high-hazard environment.
- Experience working with Upper Tier COMAH assets.
- Strong knowledge of fixed and rotating equipment, PSSR, COMAH, ASME, API and HSG guidance.
- Experience in asset integrity, mechanical engineering standards and technical governance.
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A clear commitment to safe engineering practice, compliance and high standards.
