We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major chemical/process manufacturing site in Teesside. The plant is entering an exciting new stage, with renewed focus on commercial control, project delivery, maintenance investment, governance and cost performance. This is a key commercial role where you will provide senior quantity surveying and commercial management support across site maintenance and project activity.
What you'll be doing:
- Manage commercial and cost control activity across your area of responsibility.
- Prepare cost estimates, budgets, accruals, forecasts and commercial reports.
- Produce and review Cost Value Reports and reconciliation documents.
- Review and verify contractor valuations and invoices.
- Support tendering, procurement strategies and contract negotiations.
- Prepare tender packages and evaluate contractor submissions.
- Manage contracts, variations, claims, change orders and scope changes.
- Support contractor management meetings.
- Monitor cost, programme, productivity, man-hours and KPIs.
- Identify value engineering and commercial improvement opportunities.
- Work closely with site teams, engineering, project delivery teams, contractors and suppliers.
What we're looking for:
- A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
- Significant post-graduate experience in quantity surveying or commercial management.
- Experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, nuclear, chemical, process, infrastructure or another regulated industry.
- Strong knowledge of cost control, forecasting, valuations, contract administration and final accounts.
- Experience managing contractor valuations, invoices, variations, claims and change orders.
- Strong Excel and commercial reporting capability.
- SAP experience, or experience using similar ERP/commercial systems.
- The ability to interpret complex contract, commercial and project information.
- Strong organisation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The confidence to work collaboratively while maintaining appropriate commercial challenge.
Useful experience:
- 15+ years post-graduate experience in quantity surveying or commercial management.
- Live operational sites within petrochemical, chemical, COMAH, energy or heavy industrial environments.
- Maintenance and CAPEX project environments.
- Mentoring junior commercial staff or supporting site teams.
- Leading monthly contractor management meetings.
- Procurement programmes and commercial procedures.
- Value engineering, productivity analysis and man-hour reporting.
- Improving commercial systems, governance and working practices.
- Membership of RICS or another relevant professional body.
