Senior Java Developer
Location: Hybrid (Newcastle or Edinburgh - 1 day per month)

We are looking for an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a growing technology consultancy delivering innovative digital solutions for a diverse portfolio of clients.

This is an excellent opportunity for a talented engineer who enjoys working across a variety of projects, partnering directly with clients, and helping organisations solve complex business challenges through technology.

You'll play a key role in designing and delivering scalable, high-quality software solutions while collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

To be successful in this role, you must be within a commutable distance of either Newcastle or Edinburgh, with office attendance required approximately once per month.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain enterprise-scale Java applications.
  • Collaborate directly with clients to understand requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Contribute to solution design and technical architecture discussions.
  • Develop clean, maintainable and performant code.
  • Work within Agile delivery teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Conduct code reviews and support best practice development standards.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level developers.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, QA Engineers and Dev Ops teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across development processes and tooling.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and identify opportunities to enhance client solutions.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong commercial experience developing applications using Java.

• Experience with modern Java frameworks including

  • Spring Boot
  • Spring Framework
  • Hibernate / JPA
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles and best practices.
  • Experience working within Agile software delivery environments.
  • Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with clients and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing, consultancy, or stakeholder-driven environment.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working within Financial Services, Banking, Fin Tech, Insurance or Wealth Management environments.
  • Previous consultancy or professional services experience.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
  • Knowledge of containerisation technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops practices.
  • Understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging technologies.
  • Exposure to modern front-end frameworks and technologies.
  • AI & Automation Experience

We are particularly interested in candidates who are embracing the latest advancements in software engineering and productivity tooling, including:

  • AI-assisted development tools such as Git Hub Copilot, Cursor, Chat GPT, Claude or similar technologies.
