Wolverhampton Vocational Training Centre is rated “good” by Ofsted and is situated in Wolverhampton. We are a special school for pupils with complex cognitive difficulties whose age range is 16 to 19 years, who are seeking to appoint a motivated, dedicated and driven Head of Centre. We are an Academy School, part of the Central Learning Partnership Trust (CLPT). We strive to ensure our children receive an education which inspires and promotes positive learning and ensure that rigorous CPD supports all staff in becoming the best they can be.

Core Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the operational, day to day running of the centre and full responsibility for the school in the absence of the Executive Headteacher.
  • Be responsible and accountable to the Executive Headteacher for the Standards agenda in the school.
  • Contribute positively and effectively to the SEND agenda.
  • Promote safeguarding and the welfare of all the children in the centre, by ensuring that the policies and procedures relating to safeguarding and child protection are fully implemented and followed by all staff.
  • Be the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Responsible for the management of effective teaching and learning and to identify the priorities for improvement and raising standards.
  • Responsible for the health and safety and well-being of staff and students.
  • Lead the review of EHCPs.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • A good honours degree in a relevant subject.
  • Qualified teacher status.
  • Evidence of appropriate professional development (NPQH, NPQSL).
  • Evidence of leadership in a school.
  • Successful leadership and management experience in a school.
  • Experience of working within a Special School environment.
  • Successful leadership and experience of managing the EHCP process and review cycle.
  • Involvement in school self-evaluation and development planning.
  • A proven track record in raising achievement within his/her own teaching.
  • Experience of raising achievement through intervention in the teaching process.

  • Participation in relevant training to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations effectively.
