Wolverhampton: City of Youth Culture – Artists call out: Seeking Multi-disciplinary Artist for exciting project in Wolverhampton

Wolverhampton: City of Youth Culture is our new 3-year project of festivals, events, careers development and arts trails delivered by a partnership of cultural organisations. Co-created with young people, aiming to improve their self-esteem, resilience, and social skills and building a lasting platform for cultural activity.

We are seeking a talented multi-disciplinary artist with the ability to work across various art mediums for an exciting project in Wolverhampton. The goal is to create a multi-disciplinary art piece that will be featured on an arts trail around the city. The selected artist will be local, have experience working directly with young people from diverse backgrounds, and will be responsible for facilitating up to 4 workshops in the first two/three weeks of July 2024.

The workshops will involve groups of young people coming together to co-create a unique piece of artwork. The artist will guide and inspire the participants, helping them express their creativity and contribute to the final artwork. It would be ideal if the artist has prior experience working on an arts trail, as they will be expected to create a piece that seamlessly fits into the overall trail.

In addition, the selected artist will have the opportunity to collaborate with a digital developer who will create a digital platform for the artwork to be augmented. This will provide an interactive and immersive experience for viewers of the arts trail. The artist will work closely with the digital developer to ensure the successful integration of their artwork into the digital platform.

  • Wolverhampton Music Service – a programme of mass participation events for school pupils including an annual Orchestral Concert & the Big Sing.
  • Wolverhampton Local Cultural Education Partnership – annual festival of work by & for young people in West Park, Same Difference.
  • Gazebo TIE – programme of training opportunities in the cultural industries for post-sixteens.
  • LearnPlay Foundation – talks, workshops & seminars in schools to raise the profile of training & employment opportunities in the digital creative industries.

Who You Are

You will:

  • Be available to deliver workshops between week commencing 1st July – 17th July
  • Be experienced in delivering high quality artistic practice and understanding of process
  • Be experienced in developing work and projects in partnership with other stakeholders, creative partners and young people
  • Have the ability to work across different mediums – skilled in various forms of visual art, such as drawings, painting, sculpture, and digital art (more art forms are welcome)
  • Have excellent communication, planning and organisational skills
  • Have experience of designing engaging workshops to deliver on learning outcomes
  • Be passionate about the role of arts and creativity
  • Be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the partners
  • Good knowledge of health and safety, GDPR and safeguarding and experience applying these requirements to a workshop session with young people
  • Skills and experience working with young people with additional needs and SEND is desirable

All practitioners will need to hold an enhanced DBS check (update service is acceptable) and £5 million public liability insurance in place.

Artforms

We are open to applications from any type of artistic or creative practice this should include photography/digital arts, animation/illustration, ceramics, music, visual arts (2d drawings & paintings), poetry and creative writing.

Fee

£1000 (inclusive of travel and expenses)

There will be a separate materials budget available to support the creative and cultural activity of up to £500 per location/youth group
