About Wolt

At Wolt, we create technology that brings joy, simplicity and earnings to the neighborhoods of the world. In 2014 we started with delivery of restaurant food. Now we're building the delivery of (almost) everything and you’ll find us in over 500 cities in 30 countries around the world. In 2022 we joined forces with DoorDash and together we keep on dreaming big and expanding across the globe.

Working at Wolt isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely exciting. Here you’ll learn more, build more, and ship more than in most other companies. You’ll be challenged a lot, but also have a lot of fun on the way. So, if you’re a self-starter with drive and entrepreneurial spirit, this could be the ride of your life.

As a Senior Staff Engineer in the Merchant Group, you’ll tackle complex engineering challenges at scale, building the products and platforms that power how merchants run and grow their businesses with Wolt. From small local shops to large enterprise partners, you’ll help craft solutions that thousands of merchants rely on every day.

You’ll join a dynamic, evolving area where solutions are discovered as we build. Expect to work from partial data and changing priorities - your role is to create clarity by framing problems, defining pragmatic plans, and making trade-offs that empower teams to deliver value quickly while protecting long-term quality.

You’ll set technical direction across teams, drive alignment on architecture and ways of working, and lead high-impact initiatives end-to-end. You’ll work closely with product, design, data, and operations, while mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar so we can deliver high-quality outcomes efficiently and predictably. Whether it’s designing scalable systems, improving merchant-facing experiences, or launching new capabilities, you’ll play a key role in shaping how merchants succeed with Wolt.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading complex initiatives that span multiple services and org boundaries, partnering deeply with product and business stakeholders to ensure solutions deliver measurable impact.
  • Designing and evolving scalable distributed systems, balancing speed, quality and long-term maintainability.
  • Identifying and delivering AI opportunities in our products, and championing AI-enabled tooling and practices that increase productivity and improve decision quality across individuals and teams.
  • Navigating ambiguity and driving clarity and execution in a fast-changing business environment.
  • Improving system reliability and operational excellence, proactively addressing bottlenecks and failure modes.
  • Communicating complex technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, building alignment in situations with many unknowns and constraints.
  • Mentoring engineers in their career as well as helping define our engineering culture and best practices.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience operating at Staff Engineer level or equivalent scope, owning large, ambiguous problem spaces and delivering measurable business impact.
  • Strong track record of leading complex, cross-team initiatives in distributed systems environments.
  • Deep expertise in system design and scaling backend services for reliability and performance.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, product-driven environments, balancing speed with long-term quality.
  • A pragmatic, impact-oriented mindset with a bias for action and simple, effective solutions.
  • Ability to influence and align stakeholders through clear communication and technical leadership.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

It’s a plus if you have:

  • Experience in retail, e-commerce, or marketplace platforms.
  • Expertise in one or more backend languages (e.g. Go, Kotlin).
  • Background working with data-intensive systems, experimentation, or analytics to inform and validate product and technical decisions for B2B/merchant use cases.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

We’re committed to growing and empowering a more inclusive community within our company, industry, and cities. That’s why we hire and cultivate diverse teams of people from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We believe that true innovation happens when everyone has room at the table and the tools, resources, and opportunity to excel.
