We have an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused Senior Management Accountant - Housing to join our Housing Services Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full-time 12 month fixed term contract. As the Senior Management Accountant - Housing, you will play a key role within the Housing service, supporting the management of the Housing Revenue Account (HRA) and delivering high-quality financial reporting, forecasting and business partnering. You will work closely with senior stakeholders to provide financial insight, challenge and advice, ensuring effective management of budgets, service charges and financial performance. You will bring strong experience in housing finance, particularly HRA budgeting and accounting, alongside excellent analytical and financial modelling skills. A CCAB or CIMA qualification (or equivalent) is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a range of stakeholders, including Management, to ensure strategic financial decision making, deputising where appropriate
  • Manage a team providing financial guidance, coaching and ensure alignment with service goals & objectives
  • Deliver timely, insightful and accurate reporting to management
  • Promote strong financial governance and share best practice & support on legislative and guidance changes.
  • Identify, develop and support opportunities and initiatives to transform the delivery of services across the Council, promoting continuous improvement
  • Assist with delivery of training on financial acumen to upskill and develop management and the services

Candidate requirements

  • Degree-level, equivalent relevant professional qualifications or expertise
  • Qualified or actively working towards Professional accounting qualifications, CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
  • Good IT skills including office and accounting software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Proven experience of supporting projects to successful outcomes

Whilst this is a fixed term contract appointment, for anyone already employed by Wokingham Borough Council this would be classed as a secondment if successful.
