We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a qualified Social Worker to join our dedicated Adult Social Care Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a full-time, permanent basis.
As a Social Worker in our West Social Care Team, you will work directly with a diverse range of individuals, including adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, long-term conditions, young carers, those transitioning into adulthood, and older people.
The core purpose of the service is to empower people to live safely and independently within their communities. You’ll focus on maximising individual strengths and abilities, supporting people to make informed choices, and enabling carers to continue in their caring roles for as long as they choose and are able to.

Key responsibilities
- To work in accordance with the Care Act 2014 to assess, review or reassess complex needs of customers and their carers, offering advice and guidance and access to support services in line with eligible needs, with emphasis on health, safety and wellbeing for vulnerable individuals and those who care for them.
- To undertake risk assessments and formulate risk management plans, having regard for the safety of customers and others, whilst promoting independence and supporting positive risk enablement where appropriate.
- To adopt a strengths-based approach and maintain a professional and respectful working relationship with individual customers and carers. To work in a person-centred way, ensuring that individual dignity is maintained, cultural background and communication needs are addressed, and choices and aspirations are listened to and acknowledged.
- To interpret and analyse varied and complex information or situations and work with relevant others to create solutions.
- To work collaboratively with individuals, their carers, families and other stakeholders to gather information for the purpose of assessing and reviewing the individual’s needs and to identify the best options available to meet identified needs.
- To establish professional relationships with relevant stakeholders including voluntary services to enable collaborative multiagency working, exploration of new innovative ways of working, and encourage open and transparent dialogue.
- To effectively manage time, priorities, workload and conflicting pressures and escalate if appropriate.
Qualifications / Candidate requirements
- Professional Social Work qualification
- Current registration with Social Work England
- Full EU driving license (and daily access to a car)
- Good working knowledge of the statutory framework for the relevant care group and of an appropriate range of professional interventions
- Minimum of 1 year experience post qualification and successful completion of ASYE
