As a Specialist Advisory Teacher, you will work alongside another experienced specialist teacher with the Learning Support Service. The Learning Support Service is a small team of specialist teachers with additional qualifications and experience in working with children with difficulties in literacy and numeracy. The service offers advice and support to schools and to develop individual programmes of learning for children with complex literacy or numeracy needs. The Learning Support Service is part of the Educational Psychology Service You'll offer consultation to SENCOs, research best practice and the most recent developments in your specialist area, sharing findings, devising and delivering training and producing information for key stakeholders on how best to support children with complex literacy and numeracy needs. Working within your specialist area you will also have the opportunity to collect, analyse and report on data related to the impact of the Learning Support Service's activities with children. Working in partnership with educational settings, parents, carers, and colleagues from Children's Services and health services, you'll contribute to better outcomes for children educated in Wokingham and/or looked after by Wokingham Borough Council.
Responsibilities
- You will work collaboratively with school staff and children's parents/carers regarding the best support for their children who experience complex or at risk of experiencing complex literacy and numeracy needs.
- Consult with SENCos and teachers re children with complex literacy and numeracy needs through regular "surgery" sessions, bespoke and centralised training, assess individual children's needs and in some cases offer direct intervention to the children concerned
- To research best practice and the most recent developments in supporting children with complex literacy and numeracy needs and to share these findings with key colleagues to inform good practice in these areas.
- To deliver training with colleagues on topics related to the support for children and young people within your specialist area
- To collect, interpret and report on data collected on the activities carried out by or on behalf of the Learning Support Service in relation to the impact of their services with children.
Qualifications
- Teaching Degree
- Experience of working with children with SEND and preferably specifically literacy and numeracy needs.
- Experience in data collection and analysis
- Specialist teacher/assessor qualifications
- Recent in school and/or specialist teaching experience
