We have an excellent opportunity for a SEND Senior Case Manager to join our Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a Full-time, Permanent basis. As SEND Senior Case Manager, you will provide line management to SEND Casework Practitioners and Assistants and ensure that Wokingham Borough Council fulfils its statutory duties in relation to legislation around the assessment of children and young people's Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
You will lead on complex casework, represent the Local Authority in complaints, disagreement resolution and formal mediation processes, and quality assure submissions to decision-making forums to support robust and evidence-based decision making. This role requires strong relationship-building with local schools, colleges, head teachers, SENCOs, health services, and voluntary organisations, alongside effective collaboration across multi-agency partnerships including Children and Adult Social Care teams, ICB, and external partners such as Ofsted and CQC.

Responsibilities:- Direct line management of SEND Casework Practitioners with responsibility for all aspects of the SEND journey, from EHC needs assessments to annual reviews, identifying and supporting placements for children and young people with SEND.
- Developing and managing high quality EHCPs and case work, through participation in an innovative SEND Audit programme.
- Deputise for the SEND Practice Manager when required with opportunities for career development.
- Attendance at weekly multi-disciplinary decision-making forum, making informed decisions for our children and young people – the right support at the right time.
- Working in partnership to build strong and proactive relationships with all stakeholders, including children and young people, their families and educational settings.
- At all times promote safeguarding for all children and young people through collaborative working.
- The ability to manage and deal with case work of a complex nature, managing multiple cases.
- Thorough knowledge of SEN(D) Code of Practice and Children and Families Act – implementing SEND reforms and good practice on inclusive education.
- Extensive experience of working within a dynamic and busy SEND team.
- Experience of line managing, including both established team members and inducting new colleagues.
Generous annual leave – 31 days annual leave, pro-rata (rising by 5 days after 5 years of continued local government service).
