ASYE Social Worker

We have a fantastic opportunity available for a Newly Qualified Social Worker (ASYE) to join our proactive Integrated Mental Health Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on a Full Time, Permanent basis.

The Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) is a 12-month program for newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) to help develop skills and confidence in a supported environment.

As an ASYE Social Worker, you are guaranteed a protected caseload and dedicated practice consultant support to ensure that you feel safe and supported as you begin your career with us in Social Care. With your practice consultant you will receive monthly reflective supervisions, along with the chance for additional monthly check-ins.

As you work through your first year as a Newly Qualified Social Worker, you willprovide specialist social care to people who have serious or enduring mental health conditions, working closely with health colleagues, and focusing on statutory duties under the Care Act, MCA, and MHA.

As well as receiving ongoing support and guidance, you will be joining a passionate and dynamic team, playing an integral role as we collaborate with The Health Trust to transform our services and develop a dedicated social care pathway.

Both Wokingham Borough Council and The Health Trust recognise the benefits of integration, which include holistic support for people accessing the service, peer support and working collaboratively on casework for CMHT (Community Mental Health Team) colleagues.

You will find an environment where your practice can flourish and learning, and development is promoted. We provide full support with ASYE study requirements including protected study days and reduced caseload. There is a pay increase awarded on successful completion of the ASYE program.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assessments under the Care Act 2014 including Carers Assessments using a strengths based approach

  • Undertaking Mental Capacity Assessments

  • Completing Adult Safeguarding Enquiries

  • Acting as Duty Worker covering queries relating to social care

  • Working with partners in Commissioning to identify suitable support packages to meet assessed needs

  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team with nurses, psychiatrists and psychologists to provide holistic support for service users

Candidate requirements:

  • Social Work Qualification – essential

  • Experience of working with adults with mental health issues – desirable

  • Prepared to be office based minimum 3 days a week – essential
