Senior Physiotherapist Band 7 in Woking

Woking & Sam Beare Hospice are a patient‑centred charity that delivers palliative and end of life care to those with advanced life‑limiting illnesses, who live in Northwest Surrey. We care for patients and provide support to families and carers in the community as well as in our In‑Patient Unit and Well Being Centre at the Hospice. You will be joining a passionate and dedicated team of professionals that make a real difference to the families across the Surrey community.

Main duties of the job

• Provide a high standard of individualised patient‑centred care to patients with a progressing and life‑limiting illness.
• Work independently and as part of the wider Hospice team applying clinical skills in Physiotherapy in holistic needs assessment, treatment planning, goal setting, intervention and evaluation (use of outcome measures); including individual and group orientated approaches.
• Undertake skilled and effective communication with patients and their relatives as well as the wider multi‑disciplinary team.
• Work flexibly across community, inpatient and wellbeing services offered to patients of Woking and Sam Beare Hospice.
• Contribute to the evaluation and continued development of the Therapies Service in line with departmental and organisational objectives.
• Work closely with other team members and provide supervision and support to junior members of staff e.g. students, therapy assistants and volunteers as appropriate.
• Represent the therapy team as an active member of the MDT, understanding profession specific roles, liaising and attending MDT meetings and other relevant clinical meetings.

About us

The therapy team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Therapy assistants. We work closely with a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Palliative Care doctors, our Hospice at Home team, Counsellors and Complimentary therapists. The locations we see patients in are varied and this role includes working across inpatient, outpatient and community services. The ability to travel in your own car to visit patients at home is essential.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Band 7 Physiotherapist who is patient focused and passionate about palliative care. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and improve physiotherapy services within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. The post holder will provide expert assessment, treatment and management of patients with complex needs. Ideally you will have experience in Oncology, Respiratory or Palliative care or other transferrable skills that can be utilised.

Job responsibilities

The role of the Senior Physiotherapist is an essential component in supporting and complementing the Hospice therapy team and the wider Multi‑disciplinary team, ensuring that the highest standards of care are implemented and that services meet statutory regulations and national standards.

Person Specification

• Car driver with a full driving licence.
• Have access to a vehicle for community visits and ensure appropriate insurance in place.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy.
• Minimum of 5 years post registration.
• Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
• Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Significant post‑registration experience, including working as a Senior Physiotherapist (Band 6 or above).
• Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
• Post graduate courses or modules in areas such as Palliative Care, Oncology rehabilitation, Neurology or Respiratory Physiotherapy.
• Leadership or Management training.
• Experience in palliative care, oncology or hospice services.
• Community Physiotherapy experience.
• Experience of acute oncology or palliative care.
• Evidence of working within MDTs dealing with complex neurological, respiratory and cancer cases.
• Advanced Communication Skills.
• Exercise/Rehab qualifications specific to Oncology and Palliative Care.

Experience

• Experience of working as a physiotherapist within a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
• Experience assessing and treating patients with complex needs and long‑term, progressive conditions.
• Evidence of supervising junior staff, therapy assistants or students.
• Experience in clinical audit, quality improvement and research.
• Experience of service development.
• Advanced knowledge of evidence‑based Physiotherapy practice.
• Awareness and understanding of resource management issues.
• Excellent clinical knowledge and skills and ability to manage complex clinical presentations.
• Symptom management (fatigue, breathlessness, mobility decline).
• Functional independence and mobility support.

• Specialist expertise in palliative rehabilitation or cancer rehabilitation.

• Specialist skills e.g. Acupuncture in Oncology & Palliative care, TENS, Lymphodema management.
