Woking & Sam Beare Hospice are a patient‑centred charity that delivers palliative and end‑of‑life care to those with advanced life‑limiting illnesses, who live in North West Surrey. We care for patients and provide support to families and carers in the community as well as in our Inpatient Unit and Wellbeing Centre at the Hospice. You will be joining a passionate and dedicated team of professionals that make a real difference to the families across Surrey community.

As Finance Director, you will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), working closely with the Interim Chief Executive Officer, fellow Directors and the Board of Trustees to deliver the Hospice’s strategic objectives. You will lead the development, delivery and ongoing review of the organisation’s financial strategy, providing expert financial insight to support strategic decision‑making, investment, risk management and service sustainability. The role holds responsibility for financial governance, statutory reporting, audit and compliance with charity law, Companies House and HMRC requirements.

The Finance Director provides executive leadership for IT, digital infrastructure, cyber security and information governance, acting as the organisation’s Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) and ensuring digital resilience and robust information governance arrangements are maintained. You will work across the whole organisation, contributing to governance, assurance, performance reporting and organisational resilience, while providing clear leadership and support to Finance and IT teams.

A successful Finance Director will be responsible for:

  • Corporate leadership of the organisation’s financial strategy, supporting long‑term sustainability and resilience
  • Strategic oversight of financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow management
  • Monitoring financial performance and providing clear assurance reporting to SLT and the Board of Trustees
  • Leadership of financial governance, statutory accounts and the annual external audit
  • Oversight of financial controls, risk management and fraud prevention
  • Working closely with income generation teams to support fundraising, retail and income sustainability
  • Executive leadership of IT services, digital infrastructure and organisational digital transformation
  • Oversight of cyber security, Cyber Essentials Plus and digital business continuity
  • Acting as Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) with responsibility for information governance and data protection risk
  • Leadership of organisational performance reporting, ensuring accurate KPIs, data quality and reporting frameworks
  • Line management of Finance and IT senior leads
  • Participation in the Senior Management on‑call rota

  • Has strong leadership, analytical and influencing skills
  • Is collaborative, pragmatic and solution‑focused

You will be approachable, credible and confident, able to balance strategic leadership with operational oversight, and comfortable working in a complex and evolving environment.

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
