Woking and Sam Beare Hospice In Patient Unit is looking for a passionate, dynamic and enthusiastic Health Care Assistant to join our incredible team. Here at the hospice, we pride ourselves on giving exceptionally high standards of care to patients and their families through some of the most challenging times of their lives. Our charity-based service specialises in palliative and end of life care for patients with complex life limiting illnesses who live in the North-West Surrey area.
In addition to the wonderful environment, we have a keen focus on education and development. Our education team supports excellent training sessions taught by our in-house experts. Furthermore, our staff are encouraged and supported to increase their professional skills through courses and university modules. Recent examples of our commitment to developing our team include:
- NA to RN apprenticeships
- HCA to NA apprenticeships
- CNS supported and developed to join our medical team as a Non-Medical Prescriber/ANP
- Staff Nurse to Senior Staff Nurse
- Senior Staff Nurse into Clinical Nurse Specialist positions in our community team
A successful Health Care Assistant will be:
- Caring and compassionate
- Willing to develop their knowledge and skills
- Experience of palliative care is desirable; it is not essential as we can offer support through our training and development programme
- To have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
A successful candidate will have:
- The right to work in the UK without sponsorship
- Willingness to work towards Care Certificate or NVQ 3 (QCF Level 3 or equivalent)
- Experience of caring for patients in a health or social care setting
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role is Band 3 depending on experience and qualification.

Job responsibilities include:
- To work under the direction of a Registered Nurse both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver holistic, high quality care to palliative and end of life care patients, their carers and relatives in the Community and/or on our Inpatient Unit.
- To participate in a seven day per week operational service; currently recruiting for day shifts only.
Person Specification:
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience of working in a social care setting.
- Experience of working with vulnerable people.
Qualifications:
- Care Certificate, NVQ 3 (QCF level 3 or equivalent)
- Any other relevant care qualifications.
Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective time management and organisation skills.
