Woking Borough Council has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced professional to join our busy and dedicated Housing Standards Team as a Tenancy Enforcement Officer on a full time, permanent basis. This is a new role developed in line with the implementation of the Renters' Rights Act 2025 to engage with and advocate for tenants who are experiencing issues within the private rented sector. Reporting to the Senior Housing Standards Officer, in this role you'll be responsible for investigating complaints from tenants, carrying out property inspections and providing specialist advice in relation to tenancy administration. You will work closely with vulnerable tenants to help safeguard their rights and ensure they can live safely and securely in their homes. The role will have a particular focus on supporting private rented sector tenants and ensuring landlords meet their legal obligations. You will engage with landlord, letting agents and other stakeholders. Where indicated, you will take enforcement action in line with the Council's Enforcement Policy using the full range of regulatory powers available.

We are looking for someone with experience in private sector housing legislation, particularly relating to landlord and tenant legislation and the Renters' Rights Act. You will have experience of dealing with members of the public, recording conversations accurately, delivering advice and advocating for vulnerable people, including in enforcement situations. It is important that you have a positive and confident outlook, experience of working with diverse client groups and can communicate accurately and effectively with a wide range of people., The successful applicant will be required to obtain a Disclosure Certificate from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The Council will offer assistance and further details will be in the job application pack. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for this post. An assessment may be required. There is the opportunity to undertake a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Regulatory Compliance with a focus on Tenancy Enforcement. This role requires the post holder to hold a valid full driver's licence. Woking Borough Council offers in return:
