Reporting to the Senior Housing Standards Officer, the Housing Standards Officer will be responsible for improving housing standards across the Borough by working proactively, providing advice and guidance, undertaking detailed property inspections, and taking appropriate enforcement action using a wide range of relevant legislation, including licensing, to reduce hazards in housing in the private sector. With the implementation of the Renters' Rights Act and the introduction of Additional Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation, the officer will be at the forefront of major changes within the sector.

Responsibilities

  • Work proactively to provide housing advice and guidance.
  • Undertake detailed property inspections.
  • Take appropriate enforcement action using relevant legislation.
  • Support the implementation of the Renters' Rights Act.
  • Assist with Additional Licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience in housing standards and knowledge of housing legislation across all areas.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Knowledge and experience of residential property and tenancies.
  • Positive and confident outlook; experience working with diverse client groups.
  • Valid full driver's licence.
  • Eloquence in spoken English and ability to converse at ease with customers.
  • Interview will include a short written element.
