The Junior Buyer – Construction & Groundworks is a full-time, on-site role based in Dudley, supporting the procurement needs of groundworks, civil engineering, and construction projects. The role involves assisting with sourcing and purchasing materials, plant, and subcontractor services, obtaining and comparing quotes, and raising purchase orders in line with project budgets and timelines. The Junior Buyer will maintain accurate procurement records, help manage supplier databases, and monitor delivery schedules to ensure materials and equipment are available when required on site. Day-to-day tasks include liaising with project managers, site teams, and suppliers, resolving delivery or quality issues, and supporting cost control and value engineering initiatives. The role also includes contributing to health and safety, sustainability, and compliance standards within the supply chain.
Qualifications:
- Procurement and commercial awareness skills, including basic purchasing processes, cost comparison, negotiation support, and attention to detail in documentation.
- Construction and groundworks knowledge, with an understanding of common materials, plant, and services used in civil engineering and building projects (previous site or construction office experience is advantageous).
- Organisational and time-management skills to handle multiple orders, deadlines, and priorities while maintaining accurate records and tracking deliveries.
- Communication and relationship-building skills to collaborate effectively with site teams, project managers, suppliers, and subcontractors in a professional manner.
- IT proficiency, including competence with MS Office (especially Excel and Outlook) and the ability to learn purchasing or ERP systems.
- Numeracy and analytical skills to interpret quotes, compare prices, and support basic cost reporting.
- Ability to work on-site in Dudley on a full-time basis, with a proactive, problem-solving approach and a commitment to safety and quality.
