A leading British bank with a global presence is seeking F5 Migration Engineers.
Project Overview:
The objective of this project is to migrate a total of 188 F5 VE (Virtual Edition) Local Traffic Manager (LTM) and Web Application Firewall (WAF) devices to the newer F5 rSeries tenant architecture. This migration comes as a result of the current virtualised platform, Cisco's Cloud Services Platform (CSP), reaching its end of life and necessitating a transition to a more modern solution.
Current and Target Platforms:
At present, the Legacy CSP virtualisation platforms, along with the new F5 r5900 and r10900 models, are integrated with an Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI) fabric. The newly introduced F5 rSeries appliances have been built in parallel to the existing environment, ensuring a seamless transition process.
Migration Approach:
The applications running on the existing F5 VE devices will be migrated to the rSeries tenants on a like-for-like basis. This approach will maintain the current load balancer configuration settings and IP Addressing, ensuring continuity and minimising disruption to services.
Deployment Status:
The deployment of the F5 rSeries chassis has already been largely completed, and these devices are now connected to the ACI fabric. It is important to note that the scope of this project is strictly limited to virtual migration activities, with no physical infrastructure work required.
Skills & Experience:
- Proficient in F5 BIG-IP platforms, including LTM and GTM/DNS
- In-depth understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/S, DNS, SSL/TLS) and application delivery concepts
- Ability to create, modify, and troubleshoot F5 configurations, including iRules, SSL profiles, and traffic policies
- Experience in deploying F5 solutions and executing migrations of F5 appliances and configurations between environments or platforms
- Experience in diagnosing and resolving issues during migrations, including connectivity, performance, and compatibility challenges
- Ability to configure, test, and deploy F5 devices, ensuring alignment with Engineering standards and established processes
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Experience working in large organisations with mature processes and rigid change management framework
Nice to have:
- Experience with F5 HSM/FIPS would be advantageous
- Experience with multitenancy and virtualization, VIPRION or rSeries platforms
- Some experience with ACI and FortiGate Firewalls would be beneficial
Industry Certifications:
F5 Certified (such as F5 Certified BIG-IP Administrator or Solution Expert) and other relevant networking or security certifications are advantageous.
