In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the proper functioning and upkeep of all facility systems and infrastructure. You will perform repairs, routine maintenance, general upkeep, and preventative tasks, all aimed at minimizing downtime and avoiding costly repairs. This is a hands‑on role where attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Routine Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance tasks across the facility, including repairs to structural damage such as windows, doors, walls, floors, and fences, ensuring a safe and operational environment.
  • Plumbing Repairs: Troubleshoot, identify, and repair any issues with plumbing systems, including leaks or blockages, to restore functionality and prevent water damage.
  • Electrical Repairs: Perform electrical repairs, such as addressing faulty wiring or broken circuits, to maintain the integrity of electrical systems and ensure a reliable power supply.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Proactively implement preventative measures to prolong the lifespan of facility components. This includes sealing flat roofs, replacing worn‑out seals, and maintaining HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) to reduce the likelihood of future breakdowns.
  • Safety Hazard Identification & Fixes: Detect and resolve potential safety hazards within the facility. This includes addressing issues that could pose risks to staff or visitors and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
  • Painting & Aesthetic Maintenance: Restore and maintain the aesthetic appeal of the facility by repainting areas that have worn or faded, ensuring surfaces are protected and visually appealing.
  • Yard & Grounds Maintenance: Manage outdoor spaces, including yard upkeep, removing debris, trash, and weeds, and performing necessary repairs to fences, steps, and building exteriors to maintain the property’s overall presentation and safety.
  • General Cleaning & Upkeep: Handle general maintenance and cleanup duties, including organizing and cleaning common areas, removing trash, and ensuring the facility is tidy, organized, and presentable at all times.
  • Generator Maintenance: Ensure that backup generators are in proper working order, well‑maintained, and stored correctly when not in use, to ensure they are ready for deployment in case of power outages.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven Maintenance Experience: Extensive experience in general building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical, painting, and other related fields.
  • Problem‑Solving Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Multi‑tasking and Prioritization: Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritising work based on urgency and importance.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Safety Protocols: Familiarity with safety standards, codes, and protocols related to building maintenance and repair work.
  • Tool Proficiency: Competence with hand tools, power tools, and machinery commonly used in building maintenance.
  • Self‑Motivated: Ability to work independently, managing time efficiently and maintaining high standards of performance.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical Endurance: Must be capable of lifting heavy objects, bending, stooping, and performing manual labour when necessary.
  • Comfort in Varied Environments: Ability to work in different environments, including confined spaces, high locations (e.g., ladders), and potentially hazardous areas.
  • Tool Handling: Comfortable operating various tools and machinery safely while adhering to established safety protocols.
