Northwick Manor Primary School is looking for a dedicated SEMH inclusion teaching assistant. You will work alongside class teachers to support pupils, particularly those with complex social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, and help them reach their potential and develop independence skills.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support identified individuals with complex SEMH needs, either 1:1 or in small groups, academically and pastorally.
  • Collaborate with the AHT (Inclusion) and subject teachers to plan and lead specific interventions—speech and language, behaviour, reading, spelling, numeracy and social and emotional needs—conducting baseline and end‑of‑unit assessments.
  • Work with teaching staff, other TAs and the AHT (Inclusion) to close attainment gaps and ensure pupils meet their learning goals.
  • Provide particular support for pupils with special needs, ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Liaise with class teachers, the AHT (Inclusion) and other professionals about Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contribute to planning as appropriate.
  • Use a trauma‑informed approach where requested to aid pupils with special needs.
  • Aid pupils in accessing all subjects of the national curriculum and encourage independence.
  • Support individuals or small groups during class entry/exit, break time, lunch and other school events; provide regular feedback to teachers and year group leads.
  • Attend visits, trips and out‑of‑school activities as required, supervising any group under teacher supervision.
  • Address the physical, hygiene and safety needs of pupils and promote positive behaviour, dealing promptly with conflicts in line with school policy.
  • Support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence.
  • Prepare, maintain and use equipment and resources required for lesson plans and learning activities.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining displays throughout the school and engage parents constructively.
  • Provide administrative and clerical support to teaching staff and other TAs as required.
  • Participate in enrichment activities and perform any reasonable duties requested by the Headteacher.

Other Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional regard for the ethos, policies and practices of the school, with high attendance and punctuality standards.
  • Continuously develop your competencies through training and other learning activities.
  • Attend team and staff meetings.
