Key Purpose
To ensure, individually or as part of a team, the welfare and safety of all children remaining within the school grounds or buildings during lunch time.
Responsibilities
- Supporting pupils while they eat their lunch and ensuring tables are clean.
- Using initiative in monitoring events occurring on the school premises and grounds.
- Encouraging play activities by modelling and taking part if necessary.
- Positively encouraging good behaviour, healthy eating and good table manners.
- Helping to set up and clear away the lunchtime area before and after the lunchtime period when required.
- Ensuring food and water spillages are dealt with promptly.
- Reporting accidents and completing accident forms if necessary.
- Undertaking ancillary duties as necessary (setting up and clearing away tables, cleaning tables and dining area).
- Ensuring the behaviour policy is implemented and seeking advice on how to deal with individuals as needed from the senior leadership team.
- Supporting the work of staff and other supervisory assistants.
- Escorting children to and from the dining area and ensuring their safety at all times.
- Supervising children at all times, indoors and outdoors.
- Recording inappropriate pupil behaviour and conveying serious incidents to the head teacher.
- Maintaining checks throughout lunch break to ensure pupils are safe.
- Attending training when appropriate and after consultation with the head teacher.
- Attending to and reporting any minor first aid accidents or injuries or pupils who become ill.
