We are looking to recruit a motivated and detail‑oriented individual to join our busy Revenues and Benefits Collections Team. As a Technician – Recovery, you will play a key role in supporting the Council to maximise income collection across a range of debt types, ensuring that the right amount is collected from the right person at the right time. You will work in a fast‑paced environment, dealing with customers and managing collection processes in line with legislation and the Council’s Collection and Debt Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of action taken across a range of debts
  • Provide advice and guidance to customers via telephone, written correspondence and face‑to‑face contact
  • Gather and assess financial and personal information to determine appropriate recovery action
  • Negotiate and agree repayment arrangements in line with policy and legislation
  • Monitor payment arrangements and take further action where agreements fail
  • Liaise with third parties, including enforcement agents and organisations supporting customers with debt
  • Support wider service delivery through additional tasks as required

Knowledge and experience

  • Experience of working in a financial or office‑based environment, or administering council tax/business rates accounts
  • Basic knowledge of council tax and business rates legislation or financial systems
  • An understanding of debt issues and customer circumstances (desirable)

Salary: £26,403 – £28,142 (Grade 4)
