About the Apprenticeship

This Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Civil / Structural Engineering starts at Level 4 and progresses to Level 6, combining work‑based learning with formal academic study. Throughout the apprenticeship you will be supported to:

  • Develop technical, analytical, and practical engineering skills
  • Apply learning at university directly to real‑world projects
  • Build your experience towards long‑term professional registration

What You Will Be Doing

As a Structural Engineer Apprentice you will support the team with inspections, design, and maintenance of council‑owned structures, including bridges, buildings, and other assets. Your duties will include:

  • Assisting with structural inspections, surveys, and site investigations
  • Supporting the design and assessment of structures using concrete, steel, masonry, and timber
  • Preparing drawings, calculations and technical reports, using AutoCAD and engineering software
  • Attending site visits and helping monitor construction works
  • Supporting compliance with Building Regulations, Health & Safety, and council procedures
  • Collaborating with engineers, consultants, and contractors
  • Completing all elements of your apprenticeship training and maintaining a development log

Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet the University of Wolverhampton's entry criteria for the Civil / Structural Engineering programme, along with:

  • A Levels – grades CCC or above (one Mathematics and one Physical Science required)
  • BTEC L3 Extended Diploma – grades MMM or above
  • GCSE passes – Grade 4 or above in English and Maths
  • Successful completion of an interview and acceptance by the University to study for a BEng (Hons) Civil and Transportation Engineering
