About The Role
Under the direction of senior staff, to provide support in addressing the needs of pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers during lunch break. Assist the senior staff in the following:
Support for Pupils
- To receive and supervise pupils to allow them to enjoy a normal lunch break
- To provide pastoral support to pupils within the school environment at lunch breaks
- To assist children in matters of personal needs and their general health including first aid
and welfare matters
- Provide structured support in accordance with specific programmes designed by the school
and outside agencies
- Involvement in the implementation of individual behaviour/support/mentoring plans
- Provide general support to pupils, ensuring their safety, by complying with good Health and Safety practice
Safety practice
- To recognise and diffuse difficult behaviour
- Develop 1:1 mentoring arrangement with pupils and provide support for distressed pupils
- To support social inclusion in school by offering a lunchtime drop in session
Support to School (this list is not exhaustive and should reflect the ethos of the school)
- Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons you are responsible for or come into contact with
- Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop
- Liaise effectively with teachers/parents/guardians, welfare officers, health visitors and other professional staff as part of the routine consultative process
- Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school
- Attend relevant meetings as required
- Assist with the supervision of pupils out of lesson times at lunchtimes
- Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advice and support others
Experience
- Experience working in an education setting and with pupils with SEND needs
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent
