We are seeking a highly professional and proactive Governance Lead/Company Secretary to join our central team. This is a pivotal role, reporting directly to the CEO, providing executive support to senior leaders, and leading the trust’s governance services.
Amethyst Academies Trust (AAT) is a multi-academy trust based in Wolverhampton and Telford, dedicated to transforming lives through exceptional education. The Trust oversees a family of schools, including Aldersley High School, Moreton School, Telford Park School, Penn Hall School, and Tettenhall Wood School. AAT’s mission is to provide pathways to success for every student, fostering environments where all learners—regardless of background—can thrive and achieve their highest potential.
About the Role
You will oversee all aspects of governance effectiveness and compliance, ensuring our trust meets statutory and regulatory requirements. You will provide strategic leadership for governance support services, act as lead adviser on governance matters, and drive best practice across the trust. You will also deliver high-level executive support to the CEO, COO, and Education and Inclusion Directors, ensuring the smooth running of meetings, communications, and compliance processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop governance services, ensuring compliance and effectiveness
- Advise on governance structures, procedures, and legal frameworks
- Oversee recruitment, induction, and development of governors and trustees
- Manage statutory records, policy registers, and governance documentation
- Provide executive support, including diary management, meeting organisation, and confidential administration
- Support the trust’s communication, PR, and event coordination
About You
You will have experience as a PA/governance, managing multiple diaries, and coordinating meetings and events. You will be highly organised, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Effective communication skills and the ability to influence senior staff are essential. Experience in governance, compliance, or clerking is desirable.
Qualifications
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C or above)
- Recognised qualification in Business or Administration, or equivalent experience
- Degree in business/administration or governance qualification (desirable)
