Salary – £26,403 – £28,142 (Grade 4)

Hours – 37 hours per week, 5 out of any 7 day period.

Contract type – Full time, permanent.

City of Wolverhampton Council is looking for dedicated operatives to join our Cemeteries service. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in our community, ensuring our cemeteries are maintained to the highest standards. You will be part of a supportive team that values dedication, respect and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Grounds Maintenance: Facilitate all aspects of grounds maintenance activities to keep our cemeteries well-kept, including cleansing activities and horticultural operations.
  • Teamwork & Initiative: Work effectively on your own initiative, setting high standards individually and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Training & Development: Undertake appropriate training to equip you with the skills needed for the role.
  • Customer Care: Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining the dignity and respect associated with cemetery activities.
  • Vehicle Operation: Operate ride-on mowers, dumpers and mini diggers (or be willing to undertake training) to support maintenance and operational activities.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold a current full UK driving licence.
  • Have proven experience in horticultural and cemetery-based activities.
  • Be competent in the operation and use of grounds maintenance vehicles.
  • Have a strong work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Be committed to high standards of customer care and service.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for “touch down” space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
