The intention is for the postholder to work predominately from home however, it is a requirement to attend our offices or sites within Warwick District as required. Any costs for travel from home to the office will be met by the successful candidate. However, hybrid and office working is also available.

About WDC, The Team And The Role

Warwick District Council’s Contract Services team is recruiting a Recycling Development Officer on a two-year fixed-term contract to lead local initiatives aimed at boosting recycling and reducing waste.

What You Are Looking For

In this role, you will deliver educational campaigns and service improvements to increase community participation, improve recycling performance and build cleaner, more sustainable communities.

  • Plan and deliver service improvement projects that increase recycling rates and participation, support service changes, reduce waste and help keep communities across Warwick District clean.
  • Plan and deliver educational activities, including campaigns, roadshows, presentations and talks, to promote correct recycling and waste reduction and help residents understand recycling services.
  • Help develop and deliver the Council’s waste and recycling responsibilities under the Warwickshire Waste Strategy, the Waste Minimisation Strategy and the Warwickshire Waste Partnership.
  • Carry out administrative duties related to recycling and waste reduction. This includes monitoring participation, recording and reporting campaign results, and using data to target areas with lower recycling rates.
  • Work with the Waste Education and Enforcement Officer to develop and deliver targeted recycling and waste minimisation campaigns and conduct door stepping visits to engage with the residents to encourage participation in kerbside recycling, reduce contamination and improve both the quality and quantity of recycling.

Essential Requirements

Essential requirements include strong communication and relationship-building skills, experience in supporting service changes and a good working knowledge of relevant environmental, waste and recycling strategies and legislation.

You will be self-motivated, organised and able to work independently with minimal supervision. You will also be willing to work flexibly so that you can engage with different sections of the community

Hours & Contract type

The role is offered as a full-time post on a 2-year fixed-term contract. The role is offered on a hybrid working basis. It involves regular on-site work and occasional attendance at council offices or locations across Warwick District. There may be times when you are required to work outside standard office hours, including weekends.

Overview Of Team

The Contract Services Team plays a key role in maintaining a clean, attractive and safe environment across Warwick District. The team manages the Council’s major frontline environmental services contracts — including waste collection, street cleansing and building cleaning — ensuring they are delivered efficiently, sustainably and to a high standard.

Alongside contract management, the team leads on waste and environmental education and enforcement activities, working with residents, businesses, communities and partners to promote positive environmental behaviour. From encouraging participation in recycling and tackling waste issues to supporting community clean-up initiatives, the team helps keep the district clean, tidy and welcoming for everyone who lives, works or visits here.
