About The Role

As an SCSA, you will support the day‑to‑day running of the library, helping to ensure our customers receive an excellent service. You will take on a leadership role on shift, supporting colleagues and volunteers, and helping to maintain a safe and positive environment for all.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a high standard of customer service in a busy public library
  • Support and supervise staff and volunteers during shifts
  • Assist with the smooth running of library operations, including opening and closing the building
  • Promote library services, events, and digital resources
  • Support community engagement activities and events
  • Handle customer enquiries, including those that may be sensitive or complex
  • Support the implementation of council and library policies

About You

  • Has excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Is confident working with a wide range of people in the community
  • Can support and guide colleagues and volunteers effectively
  • Is organised, flexible, and able to prioritise tasks in a busy environment
  • Is confident using IT systems and supporting customers with digital services
  • Demonstrates a positive, proactive, and inclusive approach

Previous experience in a customer‑facing role is essential, and experience of working in a library or similar setting is desirable.

  • Mon – 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (8 hrs)
  • Tue – OFF
  • Wed – 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (8 hrs)

  • Sat – OFF

Week 2

  • Mon – 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (8 hrs)
  • Tue – OFF
  • Wed – 9:30 am – 5:30 pm (7 hrs)
  • Thu – OFF
  • Fri – OFF
  • Sat – 9 am – 4 pm (6 hrs)

Fluency Duty & Pre‑engagement Checks

The Fluency Duty for this role is required. You must be able to speak and provide advice in accurate spoken English to the public. Successful applicants will be subject to a range of pre‑engagement checks, including a relevant Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS). In accordance with the DBS code of practice and our own policy, if an individual has a declared criminal offence an individual assessment will be completed. Warwickshire County Council adheres to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
