Level 2 Teaching Assistant (EHCP-funded 1:1 Support) – Fixed Term Contract

About The Role

We are looking to appoint a caring, patient and committed Level 2 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for an individual child with complex needs and an EHCP at Emscote Infant School. The successful candidate will be able to establish a positive and trusting relationship with the child and work effectively with parents/carers, school staff and relevant professionals.

This is a dedicated 1:1 role. You will support the child to access teaching and learning, participate fully in school life and develop their independence. A significant and essential part of the role will be meeting the child's personal, physical and intimate care needs, including toileting, changing, dressing and hygiene support, in accordance with their individual care plan.

The position is term-time only, working 30.42 hours per week, including INSET days. We actively support flexible working arrangements and welcome discussions around alternative working patterns where these meet the needs of the child and the school.

Contract Type

This is a fixed-term position linked to the provision of additional support required under a pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and the associated funding received by the school.

The post has been established to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a specific pupil and will continue for as long as the school requires this additional EHCP-funded support provision. The contract will therefore end when the requirement for this additional support ceases, for example where the pupil leaves the school, the EHCP is amended and the level of support is no longer required, or the associated funding ceases.

Key Requirements

This post requires a dedicated, resourceful and caring person who is calm, reliable and child-centred, and who can provide consistent support while encouraging the child's independence.

The successful candidate will:

• Have experience of supporting children or young people, ideally in an education, SEND, care or similar setting.
• Be willing and able to provide intimate/personal care, such as toileting, changing, dressing and hygiene support, in accordance with the child's individual care plan.
• Be able to support the child's physical needs safely, including mobility, positioning and use of relevant equipment where required.
• Be willing to undertake appropriate training, for example manual handling, intimate care and any child-specific medical procedures.
• Understand dignity, privacy, safeguarding and appropriate professional boundaries.
• Demonstrate patience, empathy and a child-centred approach, with a commitment to encouraging the child's independence rather than doing everything for them.
• Be able to communicate effectively with the child, parents/carers, teachers and relevant professionals.
• Be able to follow written care plans, risk assessments and school policies.
• Have good safeguarding awareness and be willing to undergo the appropriate safer-recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check.
