An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Highway Engineer to join Warwickshire County Council's Structural Highway Maintenance Team. The team is responsible for developing and delivering a wide range of highway maintenance and capital improvement programmes across the county, working in partnership with our term maintenance contractor and key stakeholders.

As a Highway Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development and delivery of structural highway maintenance schemes, including carriageway and footway resurfacing, reconstruction, drainage improvements, surface dressing and other asset management initiatives. You will be responsible for managing projects from inception through to delivery, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, within budget and to the required quality standards.

The successful candidate will work closely with contractors, suppliers, local communities and elected members to help maintain and improve Warwickshire's highway network, delivering real benefits to residents and road users across the county. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about highway engineering and has the skills and experience to help deliver a high-quality service.

Key Requirements

  • Investigate, design, cost and deliver highway structural maintenance and improvement schemes.
  • Manage carriageway and footway resurfacing, reconstruction, structural patching and drainage improvement projects.
  • Develop specifications and oversee works in accordance with engineering standards and quality management procedures.
  • Monitor project budgets, programmes and contractor performance.
  • Undertake site inspections and supervise works to ensure compliance with health and safety requirements.
  • Assess temporary traffic management arrangements and construction risks.
  • Provide technical advice and support to colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Assist with the development of future maintenance programmes to improve the condition of the highway network.
  • Prepare reports, performance information and responses to enquiries from residents, councillors and other stakeholders.
