Walsall Council is looking for a Fleet & Stores Support Officer to support the day-to-day operation of our council fleet and Clean & Green stores. This hands-on role helps keep vehicles, equipment and stock organised and available so essential services such as waste collection, street cleansing and grounds maintenance can operate efficiently. You will work closely with workshop technicians, contractors and operational teams to support vehicle servicing, repairs, stores management and driver compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support servicing, MOT/plating and inspections of fleet vehicles and plant
  • Coordinate repairs and breakdowns to minimise vehicle downtime
  • Assist with basic vehicle maintenance (bulbs, wipers, jump starting)
  • Manage stock including PPE, tools, parts and equipment
  • Maintain accurate vehicle and stock records
  • Liaise with contractors including tyre suppliers and repair services
  • Support monitoring of driver compliance (licences, CPC and tachographs)
  • Assist with fleet damage investigations and insurance claims
  • Transport stores and equipment between depots when required

What We're Looking For

  • Experience with fleet vehicles, plant equipment or workshop operations
  • Experience in stores or stock control
  • Good organisation and communication skills
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • Understanding of health & safety requirements
  • Full UK driving licence

Working Pattern

Monday to Friday. Some weekend or bank holiday work may occasionally be required.
